Archive for January, 2012
Just about two weeks are left before schools wrap up MVAL Antietam Conference action on Feb. 10 and right now, all sights are set on Tuesday (Jan. 31) when South Hagerstown visits Smithsburg.
At this point, South is in first place with a 10-0 record while the Leopards are next in line at 9-1. The only blemish was a 74-52 loss to South on Jan. 3.
Smithsburg is 13-3 overall while South is riding the crest of a 14-game win streak after opening the year at 0-2. The Leopards have equaled their win total from last year and are not far from reaching their most recent best overall record of 16-8 in the 2005-06 year.
Even though this is a midweek game I would suggest not missing the game. It could be a blowout, as the first meeting suggests, but I am going to go out on a limb and say it won’t be. I’m not saying Smithsburg will win but it will be a far more competitive game than the first.
We’ve just about reached the mid-point of the basketball season so let’s take a look at the boys in Washington County.
MVAL ANTIETAM: South Hagerstown is in control of its own destiny in the Antietam, as I expected they would be. Smithsburg is 1-game behind the Rebels in the MVAL standings, that loss was a 22-pointer to South.
SOUTH: Devonte Morel has been the top scorer for the Rebels and we’re still waiting for the real Devon King to step up to his potential. If everything comes together the Rebels could get through 3A and back to Comcast.
Gee, you’d think I was out of the country. Maybe I have been but didn’t know it. Time to get back to this blogging thing, it’s only been a month since I did it.
Tonight (Monday) My prediction is LSU 16, Alabama 13 in the BCS Championship.
My Notre Dame team (basketball) gets beat in D.C. by Maryland but goes on the road and beats a much tougher Louisville. Mmmm.
Loved every minute, well most of them, with Denver beating the Steelers on Sunday. The Towel can go into hibernation for another year.
I’m really wondering whether Colt McCoy is the answer for my Browns. How about getting Flynn away from Green Bay?
The PGA golf season is just around the corner. Will Tiger Woods win a major this year? If he doesn’t I don’t think he will reach Nicklaus’ record of 18. More importanly, will I ever get a hole-in-one.
The NBA season has returned …. so what !
Well, that’s it for now. At least I know where I can still blog. I’ll be back very, very soon. Gotta get all my boys high school basketball thoughts down.
