The Starting Five

A verbal weekend

by on Sep.09, 2013, under College Basketball, College Sports, Prep Basketball, Prep Sports

The weekend of September 6th, known as the opening weekend of prep sports for public schools in Washington County, ended up being a big weekend for a pair of private school prep stars.

St. Maria Goretti’s Martin Geben and Saint James’ Obi Enechionyia made their verbal choices for their future college education and athletics.

I am sure I will catch some flack for this comment, but hear me out:

Geben has given the University of Notre Dame his verbal. In Washington County, this is the biggest college choice EVER by any athlete from this county. I am saying CHOICE, not results. Certainly, there was Rodney Monroe at North Carolina State and others.

But based on name, who is greater? Notre Dame …. Obviously the results by Monroe at NC State are untouched.

Enechionyia made his verbal on Sunday after he visited Temple University. He also had a visit scheduled for Georgia Tech next week, but he enjoyed the Philadelphia school and that’s where he’ll go.

MMM, I’m obviously not in on the inside of the Maryland Terps basketball … have even enjoyed meeting and talking with coach Mark Turgeon ….. and, I’m not a Terps follower, BUT, two more players that skip out on Maryland.

Maryland has a pretty good class including two local studs. You can’t get them all.
